DATA DELETION

Ask us to delete your data.

You can ask us to delete your personal data at any time. Email privacy@outletplug.com or message our Instagram account. We confirm within 5 business days and finish within 45 days. This page also explains how to delete data connected to Instagram comments and messages.

Last updated October 21, 2026 · Version 2026-10-21-v1

Who can ask

Anyone whose personal information we hold: newsletter subscribers, people who submitted a find, people who commented on or messaged our Instagram account, account holders (if accounts launch), and people who contacted us by form or email. You may also ask someone to act for you (an “authorized agent”) if you give us written permission.

How to request deletion

Use either of these:

  1. Email privacy@outletplug.com with the subject “Data Deletion Request.”
  2. Through Instagram: send a direct message to our official Outlet Plug account with the words “Delete my data.” Then confirm by email if you can, which makes verification faster.

Tell us which of these apply so we can find your data:

  • the email address you used for the newsletter, submissions, or an account
  • your Instagram handle (if you commented on or messaged our account), or another social handle you used with us
  • the name you used on a submission and, if possible, the find or store you submitted
  • anything else that helps us locate your records

If you came here from Facebook or Instagram: this page is our data deletion instructions page for the Outlet Plug app. Outlet Plug does not offer Facebook or Instagram login, so you have not given our app access to your account. The app only reads comments on Outlet Plug’s own Instagram posts and sends the replies described in our Privacy Policy. To delete data we received that way, send a deletion request as above.

Verification

To protect you, we confirm that the request comes from the right person. This usually means replying from the email address on file or replying to a confirmation email we send. For a social media request, we may confirm through the same account. We will not ask for more personal information than needed, and we will not ask for a government ID unless there is no other way to protect your account.

What happens after you ask

  • Within 5 business days: we acknowledge your request and may ask for verification.
  • Within 45 days of verification: we complete the deletion. If we need more time (up to 45 more days), we tell you why before the first deadline.
  • We confirm by email (or the same social channel) when finished, and tell you if anything must be kept and why.
  • There is no fee. We may decline requests that are repetitive, unfounded, or that we cannot lawfully fulfil, and we will explain.

What we delete

Depending on what you ask and what we hold:

  • Newsletter data: your email, name, size and alert preferences, and subscription history, removed from our newsletter provider (Brevo) and our database (see “What we may keep” about not adding you again).
  • Submissions you sent: your name, email, Instagram handle, contributor record, credit preferences, and any private notes tied to you. Unpublished submissions and the associated photos are deleted unless you tell us to keep them.
  • Published submissions: on request we will remove your name, handle, and credit from the page (the find itself may remain as an anonymous community find), or, if you prefer, remove the submission and your photos from the site.
  • Instagram comments and messages: the comment text and username we stored when you commented on our posts, the record of any automated reply we sent you, and messages and attachments you sent our account that we saved.
  • Account data (if accounts launch): your profile, points, badges, and login details.
  • Contact messages: emails and form messages you sent us, including submissions sent by email.

We also instruct the service providers that process this data on our behalf (for example our newsletter, email, hosting, and analytics providers) to delete it, or we delete it from the systems we control.

What we may keep, and why

  • A minimal record that you asked, so an email address you unsubscribed or deleted is not added again by mistake.
  • Consent and deletion records (a request reference, dates, and the fact that you asked), so we can prove we honored your request.
  • Information needed to comply with law, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, or enforce our Terms. For example, records about a banned abuser, or tax and accounting records.
  • Content that cannot be tied back to you, such as aggregated or anonymized analytics and statistics.
  • Backups: deleted data may remain in our hosting provider’s routine backups until those backups are replaced on the provider’s schedule. We do not restore it to active use.
  • Copies outside our control: content you posted publicly on social platforms, content already shared or reposted by others, and copies in search engine caches belong to those platforms or people. We can remove content we control and can ask platforms, but cannot control copies elsewhere.
  • Photos you licensed to us that were already published or distributed (for example in a video or newsletter that has already gone out): we will stop future use and remove them where we reasonably can, but it may not be possible to recall material already distributed.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure site use. We do not send names or emails to Google Analytics. You can limit this by clearing cookies, using your browser’s privacy controls, or installing Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Because analytics data is not linked to your name or email, we usually cannot identify and delete a specific visitor’s analytics data.

Your other rights

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access or get a copy of your data, correct it, restrict or object to some uses, and not be discriminated against for using your rights. We do not sell personal information for money. Use the same contact methods to exercise these rights. If you disagree with our response, you can appeal by replying with “Appeal” within 60 days, and you may contact your state attorney general. Our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service have more detail.
